At Global Hearts for Health, our mission is to combat the deep-rooted corruption and fragmentation in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s healthcare system. We are dedicated to providing support, transparency, and resources to ensure that every citizen receives the healthcare they deserve, free from corruption and inequities.
The Crisis in Bosnia and Herzegovina
The legacy of the Bosnian War and the complex political landscape have left Bosnia and Herzegovina with a fragmented and corrupted healthcare system. The division of the country into two entities—the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia—has resulted in significant disparities in healthcare access and quality. Corruption manifests as favoritism, mismanagement of funds, and bribery, leading to inadequate medical equipment, uneven access to care, and additional out-of-pocket expenses for patients.
Key Issues:
Corruption and Mismanagement: Fund misallocation and bribery result in poorly equipped hospitals and uneven care.
Fragmented System: Political divisions lead to inconsistent healthcare services across regions.
Lack of Basic Needs: Many citizens lack access to emergency medical services, sterile surgical tools, and primary care physicians.
